Permesso di doggiorno,
the permission to stay, is needed if you want to stay a longer period in Italy.
You can obtain a permission from the Questura. The following documents
are needed:

visa (not needed for EU citizens) |

You
can buy your health insurance from INA ASSITALIA, but also some foreign
insurances can be accepted, specially if they bear a stamp of an Italian
embassy. The price of the insurance depends on the length of the period: €
6,46 for 1 month; € 19,37 for 3 months; € 38,73 for 6 months; € 77,47
for 1 year. To pay the insurance you have to go to the post office with a
completed payment form. The form should be titled to: Consorzio Agenzia
Generale INA/Assitalia, Roma, conto 20, via del Tritone, 00187 Roma. Numero
C/C 71270003. On the reverse side you should write the motive of the
payment: per polizza sanitaria stranieri.

presented at Questura (State Police), Via Divisione Acqui 151, Modena. Tel:

The office of foreign affairs
is open from Monday to Friday. To present documents, you can go in the office
on Monday or Wednesday at 8.00 or at 10.30, take a number and wait for your
turn. Usually there is a long line and you might have to wait several hours.
To pick up your permission you can go on Tuesday or Friday at 8.00 or at
10.30.
